PhD Scholarships in Germany:

The DAAD and American Institute for Contemporary German Studies (AICGS) are jointly offering DAAD-AICGS Research Fellowship Program for assessment of German -American relationships around the world and Europe. The financial aid will be provided by the Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD).

Introduction to Scholarship Providing Body:

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) is a German organization that is publicly-funded self-governing institute of higher education. AICGS examines the development and growing trends in Germany, Europe and US. It creates new transatlantic networks; and promotes dialogue among the political, academic and business communities to handle the differences.

Objectives of Scholarships:

The aim of this fellowship program is to give equal opportunities to brilliant scholars and professionals working on Europe, Germany and transatlantic affairs to AICGS for two months research stay.

2015 Netherlands Scholarships for International Students


  • The candidates must be the citizens of Germany or America.
  • The candidates must have attained their PhD degrees or presently be working on their Ph.D. studies. There would be only exceptional cases when the fellowship award will be provided to the candidates of M.A degree holders
  • The candidates must provide all the relevant application materials to AICGS promptly before the deadline to be considered for this fellowship award in the particular period.
  • All those scholars would not be considered for these awards, who have already received financial aid or any other grant from the DAAD during three years of the fellowship commencing date.
  • Project proposals of the scholars must be well-matched with the mission of the Institute and focus on any of the below mentioned five research and programming fields of the institute:
  • Germany and the United States in the Global Economy
  • Germany in Europe
  • New Security Challenges and Changing Foreign Policy Agendas
  • Culture, Values, and Politics
  • Transnational Issues

Academic Qualification requirements:



  • Fellowships will be provided a monthly financial aid of almost $4,725,
  • It grants to the students will be offered in accordance to their seniority.
  • The candidates will be offered an economy class airfare round trip and also from Washington, the amount of aid for this purpose will be: $770,
  • The candidates will be offered also an office room at the University or Institute.

How to Apply For Scholarship:

  • A short cover letter where the citizenship must be written that how the candidates heard about this fellowship;
  • The candidates must submit their curriculum vitae, with pertinent publications;
  • The candidates must submit 5-7 pages project proposal double-spaced with clear outlining, brief research details relevant mission of the AICGS and also the reasons must be provided for carrying the fellowship at AICGS in Washington DC.
  • The candidates must submit their two recent reference letters

Terms & Conditions

  • The Research Fellows of DAAD-AICGS would be required to provide a short methodical essay on the official website of the institute for publication; those fellows who would be able to produce excellent quality of research work, AICGS would offer the opportunities to give presentations to a broader community of Washington policy.
  • The German citizens after having selected will have to get a J-1 visa from the U.S. consulate in Germany.
