Special Scholarship Program (SSP):

In 2003, the Special Scholarship Program (SSP) was founded. The core objective of its existence is to promote the culture of advance research in Kochi University of Technology with the help of International scholars. Each year, the university enrolls specific number of aspirants from all over the world for specific research projects. The SSP provides an esteemed opportunity to the International students to pursue their doctoral level studies in Kochi University of Technology as well as assist their host supervisors as a research assistant (RA).

Scholarship is offered by Kochi University of Technology, Japan under the Special Scholarship Program (SSP). By Special Scholarship Program (SSP), KUT hopes to flourish and expand the International relationships with academic organizations across the whole globe.

  • 30,000 yen as an entrance examination fee will be let off.
  • 300,000 yen as an enrollment fee will also be exempted.
  • 535,800 yen/year as a tuition fee will be exempted.
  • 150,000 yen/month will be provided for research assistant job.
  • 150,000 yen will be provided for initial living and traveling costs in addition to the above mentioned benefits.
  • Note that only foreign scholars who are not Japanese nationals and who have, or have the intent to obtain, Japanese “Student” resident status at the time of application.

Eligibility Criteria:

              Aspirants are required to fulfill all of the following criteria:

  • Aspirants must have nationality other than Japanese.
  • At the time of entrance in Japan, foreign applicants have, or have the intent to obtain the “Student” status of Japanese residence, in accordance to the Refugee Recognition Act and Immigration Control in Japan.
  • Candidates must have master’s degree before enrollment.
  • Aspirants have strong academic background (in both bachelor’s and master’s degrees).
  • Applicants’ age must be below 35 at the time of application.
  • Candidates have required knowledge and adequate research skills to work as a research assistant in one of the research project listed here.
  • Aspirants must have high proficiency in English language.

Terms and Conditions:

  • Scholar must work as a research assistant in a specific research project during the SSP period. However the total hours per week should not exceed from 28 hours.
  • The SSP scholar must report to the dean of the Graduate School of Engineering, his/her research and study accomplishments, at the end of each semester for evaluation.
