Hungarian Government Scholarships International Students

The Hungarian Ministry of Education and Culture through the Hungarian scholarship Board office (HSB) is offering the scholarship award for the International students, lecturers and the research fellows who wish to pursue their research expertise in Hungarian Universities and higher education institutions for research. There are two systems through which this Hungarian Government scholarship can be applied:

1-    Bilateral Agreement

According to this system the scholarship will be awarded to the citizens of those countries who have signed bilateral agreement or the valid educational cooperation program with Hungarian Government or Ministry of the Education & Culture.

2-    Scholarship Pool

According to this system different categories of scholarships will be for the students of the selected countries.

This scholarship is offered in any field of the Arts & Science including General Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary Studies, Pharmaceutical Studies, Architecture, and Studies in Law.

Scholarship Benefits

  • Semester/partial studies:

HUF 40 460 stipend monthly, which is paid by the host institution

  • Postgraduate studies:

HUF 79 200 monthly stipend and HUF 70 000 lodging grant per month.

  • Partial PhD studies (for 10 months):
  • ·HUF 100 000 monthly stipend paid by the host institution includes student hostel facilities
  • Postdoctoral research studies (1-10 months):

HUF 118 800 stipend, HUF 80 000 monthly accommodation allowance, the  amount will be paid by the Balassi Institute HSB Office

  • Research stay for high-ranking studies (3-21 days or 1-10 months):

HUF 118 800 stipend, HUF 80 000 monthly accommodation allowance, the amount will be paid by paid by the Balassi Institute HSB Office.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • For semester/partial studies (3-10 months):

The undergraduate (BA/BSc) and graduate (MA/MSc) students (registered at foreign higher education universities), particularly those who are majoring in Hungarian Language and Literature.

  • For postgraduate studies, research (3-21 days or 1-10 months):

The candidates must have a Master’s degree or a university degree,

  • C/1 – full PhD program (36 months):

The candidates who must be skilled in Hungarian could be able to apply.

  • C/2 – partial PhD studies (10 months):

The candidates must be registered in a PhD program at a certified higher education university either in their home country or in a foreign country (not in Hungary).

  • For postdoctoral studies, research (1-10 months):

The candidates must have PhD degree.

  • For research stay (3-21 days or 1-10 months):

The associate professors or the researchers having a PhD degree.
