The Max Kade is the Center for Contemporary German Literature is offering DAAD Contemporary German Literature Grants for International Students in America in partnership with Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD).

Introduction to Scholarship Providing Body:

The Max Kade is the Center for Contemporary German Literature. It helps in promoting research and teaching of modern German literature. The Max Kade also helps in supporting the corporation among scholars and German/ American students/Austrian/ critics, Swiss writers, students and scholars in this field. It was established in 1984 by Paul Michael Lutzeler who is the director of institute. This is a unique center of its category established in the United States. The Max Kade is a part of Germanic Languages and Literatures Department at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri.

Objectives of Scholarships:

The purpose of this award is to promote the  study and research of political, literature, historical, social and economic aspects of contemporary and modern German affairs from multidisciplinary point of view.

  • The candidates should provide a purpose statement of their research work and also explanation of preceding research work that has been undertaken, it should 5 pages long.
  • The candidates should provide the full summarized form of their designed research project (Please specify a technique and outline in order to explain the purpose that has to be accomplished within the offered financial support period), it should be of 2 pages.
  •  The candidates should have connection with the supervisor or host in Germany who must confirm that he or she will administer the candidate when required.
  • The candidates should submit their two recommendation letters written with top headings of university, by the professors of North American institutions in chosen study field.
  • The students should submit their authorized higher education institutions transcripts from where they got degrees, includes also description at the back side of transcripts regarding grading systems.

The financial aid includes:

  • The travel grants will be (nearly 1.000 each scholars) for advanced Canadian and US graduate students, assistant professors post docs participate in the weekend seminars on the subject of “Neue ostdeutsche Literatur”.
  • One grant of Max Kade ($3.500) for a Canadian , US Ph.D. scholars who is doing work on a dissertation in contemporary German literature and researching in the fields of Contemporary German Literature Collection at Olin Library of Washington University.

How to Apply For Scholarship:

  • The candidates should provide a short cover letter with written nationality on it describe briefly that how they heard about this fellowship;
  • The candidates should submit their curriculum vitae, with pertinent publications;
  • The candidates should provide 5-7 pages long project proposal with clear outline, brief details about research work.
